Cala Gonone – Sardinia
Our Location
Cala Gonone is a town in eastern Sardinia, located in the municipality of Dorgali in the province of Nuoro. It is known for its splendid beaches and crystal clear waters which make it a very popular destination for summer holidays.
The most famous cove is certainly Cala Luna, which is located within the Regional Natural Park of the Gulf of Orosei and Gennargentu.
Surrounded by high white limestone cliffs, it has a beach of very fine white sand that gradually slopes into the transparent, turquoise waters of the sea. The beauty of the landscape has made Cala Luna one of the most photographed beaches in all of Sardinia. Other suggestive coves are Cala Cartoe, the closest to the town centre, and Cala Biriala, a strip of fine sand that insinuates itself between the rocks.
In addition to the beaches, a characteristic of Cala Gonone are its sea caves, reachable only by sea. The most famous is Grotta del Bue Marino, so called because in the past it was used by sea monks for shelter. Other spectacular caves are Navale, where it is possible to swim in crystal clear waters, and Su Marmuri, where colored concretions are clearly visible on the white walls. A very suggestive excursion is the boat trip along the coast to admire, in addition to the beaches, the cliffs overlooking the sea and the hidden coves.
